The International System of Units (SI) is the modern metric system that enables us to describe the magnitudes of physical quantities such as length, area, speed, pressure, temperature, and so forth. The use of SI units goes far beyond their given names and scientific definitions. For example, most formulas and equations used in physics, in engineering, and in everyday affairs require a knowledge of SI units. The main purpose of my Bi-Weekly Comments on SI is to present information on the application and use of SI in small, user-friendly doses. A second purpose is to introduce the Wildi SI Charts as a visual source of information about units in general, with emphasis on SI. Because information on SI is provided in a user-friendly way, it will appeal not only to teachers, instructors and students, but also to newcomers to this modern metric system.
